Erythronium - commonly known as dog tooth violets they derive their name from their unusual shaped bulb which indeed resembles a dog’s tooth. Perhaps they are one of the most rewarding of all spring bulbs as not only are their graceful blooms spectacular, the array of differing foliage types makes an all round attractive plant. Partial shade and moist, well drained soils provide best results, with the yellow varieties proving easiest to grow.
